Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • 1. SUBMISSION CONDITIONS

    1.1. The work complied with the Helsinki Declaration of the World Medical Association, which represents the international recommendations on clinical research, including ethical principles for clinical research involving human subjects, including research on identifiable human material and data. 1.2. The work has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, of a presentation at a scientific meeting, part of a published lesson, an academic thesis, or an electronic pre-press). 1.3. It is not under review in another publication. 1.4. The publication has been approved by all authors and/or by the responsible authorities where the study took place. 1.5. Is not subsequently published elsewhere, or in another similar version, or in another language, without the consent of PJBSR.

  • 3. COVER LETTER

    Each manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter (Word file called Letter-Editor): describing the article contents and its relevance to the likely readers of PJBSR briefly, declaring all the points in 1 "Submission conditions"; signed by all authors.

  • 4. ABSTRACT

    4.1. The abstract should be subdivided into subheadings: Objective: questions addressed, major goals. Methods: setting, context, sample, intervention, and the main outcome measures; for Review studies provide the data sources and the criteria for their selection. Results: Main findings. Conclusions: only those related to the results, positive and negative, highlighting limitations if appropriate, and implications of the study; for Review studies, write the main conclusions and implications for practice and research). 4.2. A Portuguese abstract should also be provided in the same document. 4.3. The abstract should not contain abbreviations or references. 4.4. The Word limit is 200–250 words.

  • 5. KEYWORDS

    5.1. List up to six keywords alphabetically after the abstract in the Word document. 5.2. These words should optimally characterize the work and facilitate either the choice of the reviewer or subsequent research of the article on the internet. 5.3. For the behavioral sciences, you can follow the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) from the National Library of Medicine). 5.4. The last keyword should be the type of research methodology: theoretical study, descriptive study through observation, descriptive survey study, experiment, quasi-experiment, ex-post-facto study, instrumental study, qualitative study, meta-analysis, or study review. 5.5. Keywords must be in English and Portuguese.

  • 6. PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT


    6.1. Manuscripts should be written in the PJBSR TEMPLATE (name the file Manuscript). 6.2. Manuscripts should follow the requirements set by the standards of APA Style ® detailed in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th Ed.) 6.3. Qualitative studies should follow APA guidelines6.4. Editors and Reviewers give importance to clear and succinct writing style and well-organized tables. Statistical procedures should be explained clearly. 6.5. If you must do so, then indicate in the text at the first use, then do not repeat the name in full.

  • 7. STRUCTURE OF THE ARTICLE

    7.1. In most of the articles, the text should be divided into sections with the following main headings: Introduction, Methods (Sample, Instruments, Procedures, etc.), Results, Discussion/Conclusion, and References7.2. All pages should be numbered. 7.3. The total word count (up to 7000) includes all text in the article body (excluding the two abstracts, the references, the figures, and the charts). 7.4.   • 8. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

    8.1. Prove that the statistical procedures used were appropriate to test the hypotheses of the study, and were also correctly interpreted. 8.2. Present levels of statistical significance (e.g., p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.001) should be mentioned, or, if applicable, Confidence intervals (non-random sampling). 8.3. The Effects size should always be given (e.g., Cohen's d, Hedges g, Eta square, the correlation size effect).

  • 9. TABLES

    9.1. Present each table in the text in a maximum of FIVE tables. 9.2. Number each table consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order mentioned in the text and label them appropriately. 9.3. When they are mentioned in the text, do not duplicate information. 9.4. The tables, titles, and footnotes should be self-explanatory and not exceed one page. 9.5. The pattern of the symbols used in the footnote is as follows: *, **, ***, †, † †, † † †, ‡, ‡ ‡, ‡ ‡ ‡. 9.6. Refer to the APA rules for formatting.

  • 10. FIGURES

    10.1. Send each individual document and illustration in JPG (high resolution – 300 dpi) in a maximum total of 5 figures and charts. 10.2. Captions should come in the manuscript in their appropriate location. 10.3. Number each illustration consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order they are mentioned in the text and label them properly. 10.4. Figures from other works must be accompanied by the written permission of the authors.

  • 11. REFERENCES

    11.1. The use of software tools for managing citations and references is recommended (e.g., Free: Mendeley Reference Manager ou o Zotero; Paid: EndNote or ReadCube Papers). 11.2. Do not include unpublished references and indicate DOI or URL whenever appropriate. DOIs should always be displayed as a full URL link in the form https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx 11.3. Cited references in another language than English should be translated to English (see example at http://rpics.ismt.pt/index.php/ISMT/Referencias). 11.4. The maximum number of references is 50 for original articles and 100 for review/meta-analysis articles. 11.5. PJBSR follows APA guidelines (v. 7). 11.6. Check the PJBSR web page for examples or APA manual brief here.

  • 12. ORCID NUMBER

    Include the ORCID numbers for all the authors. If you do not have this number, before submitting the article, register at this address and place the relevant curricular data.

  • 13. Confirm that you have read the Privacy Policy.

Author Guidelines

 

The acceptance criteria for the papers are the quality and originality of the research, these parameters being assessed first by the Editors. If indicated, the papers are assigned to the Associate Editor or the Guest Editor, who will coordinate the peer review process, usually involving finding two expert referees.

Use the following template to submit a paper to PJBSR.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to refuse material for publication, the opinion being communicated within a month. The Editor is responsible for the final decision on acceptance or rejection. Unless so stated, material in this journal does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Editors or DI&D. The editors are not responsible for any errors or omissions or by any fact (See Publication Ethics and Anti-Plagiarism Policy). The Portuguese Journal of Behavioral and Social Research prioritizes research articles and accepts other types of manuscripts.

Following is our policy for protecting your personal information. 

1. About us

  • Following the General Data Protection Regulation [(EU) 2016/679], the data controller is Departamento de Investigação & Desenvolvimento of the Miguel Torga Higher Education Institute.
  • We do not sell, share, or transfer personal information with third parties.
  • PJBSR tracks the patterns of usage of pages on its site. This tracking analysis enables us to identify the most popular articles. 
  • Other aspects of the workflow of our website do not require the use of cookies.

2. Data collected about users

  • Perusing and reading articles on our website does not require any personal information to be submitted from readers.
  • Registration on our site is optional and freely, but is expected to submit, review, or edit content. The data solicited only comprises the following points:
    • Identity Data: title, first name, last name, name initials, gender, username, institutional affiliation, ORCID number,  bio statement (e.g., department and rank), and working languages.
    • Contact Data: the personal URL, email address, telephone numbers, and institutional affiliation location.
    • Additional Personal Data: scientific areas of interest that we will use to invite registrants as relevant potential reviewers.
  • Publishing a scientific paper is intrinsically a public process. The name and e-mail address of all authors of a PJBSR paper will be available to readers of PJBSR to allow scientific communication. 
  • Assembling these e-mail addresses for commercial use is not permitted.
  • PJBSR itself will not send unsolicited e-mail to authors unless it directly concerns the paper they have published on PJBSR.
  • PJBSR will use users contact details for academic purposes (e.g., to request a review a book/article, to confirm successful submission of content, or ask authors for new works).
  • PJBSR reserves the right to disclose members' personal information if required to do so by law, or in good faith and belief that such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, respond to claims, or protect the rights, property or safety of PJBSR members.
